Return: “home” after 9/11

2011 marked the ten-year anniversary of 9-11. One aspect of this collection looks at how survivors of 9-11 retraced their footsteps and return to the site of one of the most horrific acts of terrorism in history. The collection name “Return” is meant not only to look at that aspect of the aftermath, but how the event anniversary and related memories often return the survivor to a place of anxiety and unrest.

This collection debuted at the conference “Supporting Strengths and Restoring Resiliency: Lessons Learned from 9/11 in New York City on Post-Trauma Recovery and Resiliency of Diverse Communities,”that took place on Thursday, September 1, 2011, in the Jacob Javits Federal Building, New York, NY. The goal of the conference was to explore trauma as a public health issue, starting with 9/11 and moving beyond.
